The IMM laboratory in transition 1point5!
16 July 2025Congratulations to Laurent Loiseau, a member of the IMM’s Bacterial Chemistry Laboratory, who has been awarded the CNRS Crystal Medal for 2025!
A research engineer in microbiology at the Bacterial Chemistry Laboratory (LCB), Laurent Loiseau has been exploring the workings of the microbial world for over thirty years.
For him, it all starts at the bench: manipulating, testing, understanding… then sharing. From iron-sulphur centres to quinones, he has helped to elucidate several essential mechanisms of bacterial metabolism. In recent years, his work has led him to take a close interest in bacterial pathogenicity, revealing in particular an unexpected phenomenon: the existence of oxidative stress in the absence of oxygen.
Curious and tenacious, he gradually transformed these discoveries into practical applications: one outstanding example is the development of a bacterial biosensor to detect chlorate, a water pollutant.
Long anchored in fundamental research, its research is now taking a more technological turn, with patented innovations and emerging clinical collaborations.
Congratulations Laurent on this well-deserved award and your exemplary commitment to science!
